Michael Lebow MD

Biography

Michael Lebow MD is board certified in vascular surgery by the American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Lebow graduated from Brown University in 1996. He then attended The University of Virginia School of Medicine where he received his medical degree in 2001. Dr. Lebow completed a general surgery residency at the Louisiana State University School of Medicine, New Orleans, and a fellowship in Vascular Surgery at The University of Tennessee.

Before his academic career, Dr. Lebow served as an Airborne Infantryman in the US Army's 82nd Airborne Division and with the United Nations Command in Panmunjom, Korea. He attributes his discipline and perseverance to lessons learned in the military.

Dr. Lebow has published multiple research articles  in the field of vascular surgery and has presented his findings at national conferences. From 2008 to 2012, Dr. Lebow was the founding Medical Director of endovascular surgery at Northeast Georgia Medical Center where he helped bring modern endovascular surgery to the area. He then spent 10 years with University Surgical Vascular, a private practice in Athens, Georgia.

His primary interest as a vascular specialist is treating Lower extremity peripheral vascular disease, specifically critical limb ischemia and claudication. He is certified in wound care and works closely with experienced podiatrists to facilitate the healing of diabetic foot wounds using a multi-disciplinary approach.

A central tenet of Dr. Lebow’s philosophy is to prevent the need for hospitalization through early detection, medical management, and lifestyle modification. When vasculopathy is severe and accompanied by tissue loss Dr. Lebow utilizes advanced office-based endovascular techniques combined with wound care to minimize the need for amputations. 

Dr. Lebow is experienced in treating lower extremity venous diseases such as varicose veins that cause pain, swelling, and cosmetic concerns. He offers the most up-to-date treatment options at Athens Vein and Vascular resulting in minimal discomfort and inconvenience for his patients.

Dr. Lebow established Athens Vein and Vascular in 2024 to offer vascular care that is sub-specialized to the lower extremities. His mission is to maximize your extremity health whether it be through treating cosmetic varicose veins or perform limb-saving procedures.

Family

Family life is very important to Michael Lebow. His family Lives in Gainesville Georgia. He has three children (Joseph, Nathan and Charlotte) from his first marriage and a fourth (James Michael) with his wife Elizabeth. Michael's mother and father, Emily and Lawrence, live close by and his brother, Jonathan, resides in Florida. This enables the family to be together for holidays and birthdays which is important to the Lebow family.
